The NATO summit from April sets going a whole industry of the products and services supplies. For many of these the deadline for send the documentation expired and for others is for the curent month or in March. The demand is for a whole portfolio of offers, from renting hotels and cars to catering, furniture and decorative products.
Many companies have already hand in products and services offers for the preparation of the summit which will carry on in Bucharest during April 2-4. Other auctions have the deadline towards the end of this month or in March. Many of them follow to designate the winners in the next weeks while for certain services and supplies of products, the companies already started the preparations.
500 busses and minibuses
Concerning the auto transportation, „The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the second great credit chief accountant after the Chamber of Deputies, will set up an auction for the renting of 400-500 busses and minibuses”, Daniel Gosea General Director from MFA stated. These are for the 3.000 delegates who are expected, among the most important leaders of the world, but also for the 3.500 press representatives which are accredited to this event. Besides these, 500 cars will be free put at hand by the Ford and Mercedes Companies. MFA will also observe many of the catering activities bound of this meeting, in this sense following to be set up auctions, too.
Big profits for the picked up hotels
Like other political events, organized in a city, when the demand exceeds the supply, the prices for different services increase. It’s the case of the 10 hotels picked up to host the participants to the summit, among which Marriott, Sofitel, Hilton. At the end of last July it was chosen the agency that will uphold MFA with the assurance of accommodation of the summit participants. The winning company was S.C. Vacanta S.A. „The prices to the hotels chosen for the accommodation of the summit participants are higher with 50% or even 100% against the periods with low demand”, Director of the Balcescu Vacanta branch, Florin Vergu stated. He considers as being exaggerated the amount of 6.500 foreign participants and expects that at least the officials number to be about 2.000. Vergu bases on the recent experience with the francophone summit, at which SC Vacanta Agency also was chosen to support MFA in what concerns the assurance for participants accommodation.
The most important services being still at the stage of auction procedures are the renting of busses and minibuses, for which remained in race three companies, and the making of advertising materials. „It’s about posters, billboards that will hold the summit logo. In race remained the advertising agencies Starlink and Saatchi&Saatchi, that fight on two floors – creation and production”, Victor Micula, State Secretary within Minister of Foreign Affairs stated.
Parliament Palace, NATO headquarter for three days
The Chamber of Deputies through the public acquisition department launched several supply offers. Among the future acquisition are being counted the supply of fuel, services and internet network, text display system, power sources, banners, sound distributors, multiple channels. There are also necessary furniture sets, mobile microphones, printers and scanners, digital analogical phones, translation and interpretation services, concomitantly translation equipments. The Government nominated also the main credit chief accountant for this summit and the allocated budget. So, of the highest value will benefit the Chamber of Deputies, respective 25,46 million lei. MFA will have for the set up 23,436 million lei. Bucharest Municipal Mayoralty has allocated almost nine million lei and the Otopeni city hall over 1,9 million lei. SRTV will receive 5,22 million lei and the Senate almost four million lei. In those three days of the Summit, the conference halls, offices and the halls from the Bucharest buildings will host up to 10.000 officials, secretaries, drivers, bodyguards and journalists from the NATO states or partners of NATO. After the end of the program, a big part of these will become consumers on their own in restaurants, bars or clubs.
Restaurants and clubs set up special programs
The restaurant managers from Bucharest are expecting to a spectacular increase of the clients number, especially being about the evenings of Wednesday and Thursday, that are generally „dead” from the consumption point of view. Costel Constantin, the owner of the restaurant „Hanul Veseliei”, says: „I am expecting to an increase of 50% of the clients number, and obviously of the incomes, because the foreigners look up for restaurants with traditionally Romanian food”. In a week day, the restaurant has sales, on the average, of 30 millions lei. An advantage for „Hanul Veseliei” is the location, near the JW Marriott hotel, where the USA delegation will be accommodated, and meaning about 1.000 persons. The most pessimistic is Marian Moise, manager of Malibu club. „Maybe will arrive blacks, Spanish or Portuguese. But I don’t expect to an increase of the clients number, because the participants to the Summit aren’t on our target”, Moise says.
Bucharest could become host for international events
Unfortunately, the set up of such far-reaching event isn’t a prove, but only a signal that Bucharest can be a destination for big international manifestations, but only with the condition of improvement the infrastructure and traffic, increasing of the accommodation capacity to international standards.
The RCB president outlines that it is essential the building of an International Convention Center, with a capacity of about 9.000 places in the plenum hall, plus a few halls with capacities comprised between 50 and 500 places, exhibition halls, proper parking with the number of participants and functions developed by banquting.
The necessity of a developed infrastructure is about the fact that the traffic can’t be very often restricted, generating „unique colors”, to be closed airports and schools, the employees to take off the day, generating unscheduled holidays, with other words the entire usual activity, socio-economic to be blocked for a few days.
